Rail boost as Ormond and Bentleigh train stations open early

Posted On August 31, 2016

Residents in Ormond and Bentleigh were delighted yesterday as the revamped stations re-opened, 2 days ahead of schedule.

The early opening was made possible thanks to construction crews working tirelessly to remove the final 3 level crossings on the North, McKinnon and Centre roads.  These level crossings were removed so that safety could be ensured when the train stations were eventually in operation.

Commuters from the two new stations will have access to state of the art seated benches, cover from weather, digital timetabling signs, standard Myki machines.

The stations will be manned by Protective Service Officers, who will have their own hub at the stations.

Some works are still to be completed however, and include:

  • The installation of three lifts
  • Rebuilding station car parks
  • Completion of landscaping

Over 1000 staff worked on the stations during their 37 day closure. The entire project was delivered six months ahead of schedule.

Normal train services have now resumed, with express trains on the Frankston line starting up again on September 5th.

A community ‘Thank You’ event will be held at the stations at the end of the year to celebrate the re-openings.
