Minister for Public Transport and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan has announced that two contracts have now been awarded for the upcoming projects.
Arcadis Group has been awarded the contract to undertake the preliminary design for the Bendigo Station works, and Kinsley Group will undertake the preliminary design work to inform the Eaglehawk Station upgrade.
Minister for Public Transport and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan spoke of the planned works and the benefits they will bring for local commuters.
“We are getting on with delivering what the community has asked for and deserves – better station access for people of all abilities, and station areas that are comfortable and convenient.
“We’re taking the time to make sure that we get the design right for everyday passengers.
“We’re making it easier for people to catch a train on the Bendigo Line and upgrading Bendigo and Eaglehawk stations is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s investment to improve public transport services in regional Victoria.”
A new pedestrian overpass with lifts and stairs will be built at Bendigo Station, making it quicker and easier to transfer between platforms as patronage and the number of services at Bendigo continues to grow.
There will be a vital makeover of the waiting area, toilets and customer service areas, and improvements to traffic management and parking at the station to make it easier for people to arrive on foot, by bus, bicycle or taxi.
The platform will be extended at Eaglehawk station and will include better shelter, 60 new car parking spaces and a new footpath to make the station more accessible for passengers.
