2100 extra car spaces to be made available across 14 Victorian Rail Stations

The Minister also revealed that Ace Infrastructure, Civilex and 2-Construct were the companies selected for works to upgrade 14 station car parks across Victoria.

As well as extra spaces, CCTV, line markings and car park signage will also be upgraded to help improve safety.

The 2016/17 State Budget originally planned for an extra 1,500 spaces but after extensive planning that number increased to 2,100 to make the most of the $20 million in funds allocated to the project.

In a boost for commuters, all of the car parking spaces will be provided free of charge thanks to the project unlocking extra land at the rail stations.

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan spoke of the many benefits the project will bring for local residents and commuters.

“We’re making it easier to drive to the station and catch the train – that’s why we’re creating up to 2,100 new car parking spaces at stations where they are needed most.” 

“These upgrades will help locals access the trains they rely on every day to get to work, school and back home safely.”  

“We want to make it easier for people to park, encourage more people to catch public transport, and ease congestion on our local roads.”  

It is expected that the upgrades will be completed by mid-2018.
