The Victorian government has announced Expressions of Interest to redesign vacant areas as part of the Chandler Highway Upgrade.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Luke Donnellan, said innovative ideas were open to consideration.
”We’re looking for the best proposals from interested companies to transform one of Melbourne’s most important transport connections,” Donnellan said.
“This upgrade will slash travel times by eight minutes during the AM peak and 13 minutes during the PM peak.”
The Chandler Highway Upgrade will be converted to accommodate a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians, and include an open space for tourists.
Member for Northcote, Fiona Richardson, said the government is also calling on companies to construct the $110 million Chandler Highway Upgrade.
“The Chandler Highway Upgrade will add to this already diverse and active neighbourhood,” Richardson said.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible on how these spaces can be converted into safe, vibrant destinations for residents, cyclists, pedestrians and visitors to the neighbourhood.”
The project is expected to be completed mid-2018.
